Thought it was about time we started sharing our cake receipes so heres the Tunisian Orange and Almond Cake receipe to kick it off......
Ingredients for the Cake - 325 grams Ground Almonds / 200 grams Caster Sugar / 2 rounded Teaspoons Baking Powder / 225ml Vegetable Oil / 5 Large Eggs / Chopped Zest of 2 Oranges and 1 Lemon.
Lightly oil and line a round 20cm spring form cake tin.
Beat oil and eggs together for 5 minutes. Add dry ingredients and zest and beat together well. Place mix in the tins and bake for 1 hour in a 180 degree pre heated oven / 160 degree for fan assisted.
Ingredients for syrup - Juice of 2 oranges and 1 lemon / 140 grams caster sugar / 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon. Start making the syrup 10 minutes before the cake is ready.
Place all the syrup ingredients into a sauce pan and bring to a gentle boil. The syrup needs to boil for around 5 minutes no more than 10 minutes, leave to cool slightly. At this point the cake should be coming out of the oven. Let the cake cool for five minutes and then carefully take it out of its tin. Place the cake onto a flat plate and put the spring form part of the tin back around it. Pierce the top of the cake all over with a skewer. Pour the still warm syrup over the cake and decorate with a little orange and lemon zest leave to cool...........leave comments on the wall if you try / like this receipe.........................

HI HI HI
Its June and the weathers been great lots of visitors to Totnes and the summer season is under way. There's lots underway at the cafe at the moment. We are looking at setting up a secondary kitchen upstairs on the top floor in readiness for our new venture the Totnes Bakehouse. We are looking at supplying other outlets like ourselves with cakes and retailing them via the cafe. So if you have an occassion that you need a cake for let us know, or just fancy picking up a few muffins or brownies for a picnic think of us. We should have the kitchen up and running by the end of July if all goes to plan. So watch this space!

May Newsletter
Tangerine Tree Café Newsletter
Hi all,
May is now in full swing, our garden is getting use again as the sun comes out and is perfect for a sunny lunch space. Lots of new local produce is coming into to season and is reflected in our lunch menus. Kat has been busy making our bread fresh every day and you can sample her cinnamon buns on a Saturday morning, simply delicious! Our Savory muffins have been going down very well as an alternative to our selection of cakes.
We have two events coming up in May:
Thursday 20th May – Wine Tasting Supper club in association with Totnes Wines – It’s a “Rhone Evening” with wines to sample and a 2 course dinner with coffee. If you are interested in booking for this event please contact Nigel Pound at Totnes Wines 01803 866357
Saturday 22nd May – Dangerous Dads Cider Night - in association with Totnes Living Community. Come along for an evening of sampling Cider made at the dangerous dads events over the past two years. The cider is made from apples from the Lower Hood Barton Traditional Devon Cider Orchard. The more cider you drink the more money we will be able to donate to Oxfam! There will be some live acoustic music to get the night off with a swing. We will also be serving lots of apple inspired food too. All welcome, not just for dads at this event, so please come down try a bit of cider and support a good cause! 7.30pm till 11pm (food served till 9.30pm) www.dangerousdads.org www.totneslivingcommunity.co.uk
We have also been busy getting bookings for private parties and dinners so if you’re looking for a venue in Totnes for a gathering, party or private dinner please do consider us as your venue! We can tailor make any event to your needs. Contact Ness or Martin at the café on 01803 840853.

Saturdays shes been making fresh Cinnamon Bread which normally arrives hot on the counter around 11am.
Check out the Tangerine Tree facebook page, just starting to build it, learning as we go. Become a fan and let us know what you like or not as the case might be.
Can't quite believe it but we have been open for 2 years as of the 1st April!! A big thank you to all our customers!
We've had a few staff changes, Katherine has left to have her beby and we wish her lots of love, her quick sense of humour is already being missed! We have a new starter Lisa whos working out front and has started baking with Ness.
There's a couple of private hires this month. Ness is also starting to do cake commissions, so if you have the need of a special cake call into the Tangerine Tree Cafe and talk to Ness.
